The hardest find so far for my Amstrad collection. It's the successor to the CPC6128 and features additional hardware and a cartridge port. I have always enjoyed using the Amstrad machines more than any other. I only wish these machines were exploited to their full potential. They were the most powerful 8-bit machines ever released, but due to their short commercial life-span the extra hardware wasn't put to the test.
This was the machine I considered my first "real" computer. It was also my first taste of BASIC programming. This is another ebay purchase - unfortunately my original machine died and ended up in a skip (forgive me I was only 11 years old!) Although I do wish I had kept the UNFINISHED copy or Roland in the Caves (it seams my mother brought the computer second hand from an ex-programmer!!!!!!!) I'm still kicking myself after all these years. Let that be a lesson to everyone out there. If you have a prototype or work in progress piece of software - don't let a child anywhere near it!
Amstrad CPC6128 [Boxed / with polys and manual] I purchased this from ebay in 2008 - it is one of 2 6128's I own (the other is not boxed and is the one I use to test software etc) and this has to be my favourite retro-machine. I have even hooked it up to a Symbiface II card for 512K RAM, IDE hard disk & PS2 mouse support and SymbOS on ROM.
An ebay purchase in 2008 I brought this just to own a complete set. Very hard to find these in boxed condition. Have tested it and it works great - even the disk drive was working on arrival!
Amstrad GX4000 [boxed / complete] This little beauty cost £25 on ebay in 2007. I have managed to get a fair few games for the system and have already done a video about it on my youtube channel. Compatible with the same games as the 464 plus (it only has 64K RAM so 6128 plus compatibility was not complete - although no incompatible software was released.) Was a commercial failure and was still based on the 8-bit Z80 processor. Was released at around the same time as the Nintendo SNES!
CTM644 (a colour monitor compatible with all CPC computers) and a CM14 (colour monitor for use with the plus machines and the GX4000.) I also have an unboxed CTM664 monitor hooked up to my CPC6128.
No this is not an MP3 player for the Amstrad computers! It's Amstrads puzzling name for their modulator which allowed you to turn your Amstrad monitor into a television. A pretty rare bit of kit these days - especially in this condition!
Amstrad DMP-2000 [boxed / complete] Printer compatible with the CPC computers. It did not come with a printer cable so I had to make my own. The ink is very hard to come by and even if you find some, the retaining material in the cartridge is often rotted away with age - allowing the ink to dry up. Have not managed to find a working condition ink ribbon (and I have tried 3 times.) I Tested it by soaking a print ribbon in fountain pen ink and leaving to dry over night. Ribbon lasted for about a week before it gave out again. If anyone knows where to buy ink for these printers let me know!
An attachment for the CPC464 which added stereo speakers and a voice synthesizer. A few games exist that use the hardware (I remember a boxing game from my youth). Does not fit in the CPC6128 and I have not tested it with the CPC664.
Amstrad NC-100 [boxed / complete] This was Amstrad answer to the Cambridge Computers Z88. It is a word processor with LCD display. Was also capable of playing games and was also based on the Z80 processor. I also have a 1Mb SRAM card to store documents on (which was very hard to get - apparently they are only really used for military applications now!)
Amstrad PCW 9512 [boxed / complete] Purchased from ebay for £1.99. I have tested it an it seems to need a new drive belt (the 3" disk drives are always requiring new belts as they keep breaking.) The PCW is a business machine intended solely for word processing - although a large variety of business software was written for it. There were even add-on's released by independent manufacturers which allowed these computers to be networked together (although I have never seen one.)
