master SystemSega Master System "Power Base" [boxed]

I wanted this machine so much when I was younger. The TV advert saying "Do me a Favour! Plug me into a Sega!" was my favourite TV ad. I eventually managed to sucker my parents into buying me one for Christmas - with no games. But it was OK - I could play the built in game Hang On until the cows came home. It wasn't long before I found if you hold a certain sequence of buttons during power up (UP+1+2 if I remember correctly) you couldSega Glasses access a secret maze game. Over it's life my Master System was well played and I amassed a collection of over 40 games. But I eventually moved onto the Mega Drive and gave my whole collection to a boy down the street.... Oh how I wish I had kept it now! I have since managed to get hold of the 3D glasses and hope to own all released 3D games one day!

Master System 2Sega Master System II [boxed]

The cheaper re-modelled master system which looked more like a little kid's console than the bigger Power Base. Also you could not play your Sega Card games on this one, or use the 3D glasses! This model has Alex Kid in Miracle World built in.

Sega Mega Drive (Genesis) [boxed]Mega Drive

Sega's answer to knocking Nintendo off the top of the market. Nintendo was furious that Sega had released a 16-bit machine and blamed then for Rushing to market! The Sega Mega Drive brought many people closer to the arcade experience at home - and the music sounded cool too! I sold my musical keyboard to buy my first one of these!

SaturnSega Saturn [unboxed]

Sega again tries to jump to the next level with it's 32-bit CD based machine - released around the same time as the doomed 32X. This machine was initially designed to be a 2D console with added 3D effects - but when Sega learned of the technical specifications of the new Sony Playstation machine they had to hastily incorporate a second CPU into the design to make it compete. Although the graphics betweenSaturn VCD Card the 2 machines were similar - it was the Sony Playstation with it much larger colour palette and superior graphical hardware which won the day. I purchased this second hand from a trade store and managed to get my hands on the fabled VCD add-on card too!

DreamcastDreamcast [boxed]

I brought this from ebay. This was Sega's last attempt to compete in the gaming market. It was a good effort which really should have done a lot better than it did. The Playstation II won the day though with it's built in DVD player (a new technology at the time.) The graphics are easily as good as the Playstation II or the Gamecube and Sega also added the Visual Memory Unit to the controllers in an effort to make the machine stand out. It included a modem as standard and was capable of multiplayer games over the internet! A very understated machine which does not get the credit it deserves.
