I have 3 of these little machines which are the much more common successor to the ZX80 (which I really want!) Features a Z80 CPU which went on to be used in many other more powerful home computers. This is only capable of black and white ASCII graphics but still had some great games. People brought these because they were a cheap introduction to the world of the Micro Computer. They came in Kit form or fully assembled (which was more expensive.) I got ll 3 of these from ebay. I paid £40 for the first one... And £5 for the other 2 in a job lot!
This is an upgrade to the famous rubber keyed Spectrum 48K. it gave the impression that the Spectrum was a "Real" computer after all. What was strange about the Spectrum was - even though the machine was less powerful than the others on the market at the time - it still managed to have the best arcade conversions. Which was very annoying for me and my Amstrad CPC464!
This machine was released after Amstrad brought out Sinclair and decided to remodel the Spectrum to look more like the Amstrad CPC machines... There was a problem though... These machines actually look cooler than the CPC machines and ended up affecting sales of Amstrads own machines! DOH! This machine has 128K RAM, 3 channel sound and a built in cassette drive (a better spec than the CPC464!)
Spectrum 128K +3 [boxed]
Amstrad discontinued the sales of
the +3 very soon after launch as people were choosing it over
the CPC6128 machine.
